• Acura and Honda reported mixed sales results across April.
  • Combined car sales jumped 17.5 percent across both brands.
  • Prelude recorded its strongest monthly result since returning.

Honda’s had a rough year, but the automaker saw a glimmer of good news as April sales were up 1.6% to 125,571 units. Interestingly, cars were the savior as almost every crossover experienced declines.

The Accord was the big winner as April sales soared 42.5% as Americans snapped up 16,071 sedans. The Civic also saw a sizable boost as sales climbed 6.3% to 25,040 units.

Even the Prelude had a (relatively) banner month as the company moved 357 of them. That’s 77 more than in March and is the Prelude’s best result to date.

Despite the positive momentum, Honda has only sold 1,152 so far this year. While that’s not many, the Prelude is outselling the Subaru BRZ, which has only generated 1,086 sales through April.

Crossover, truck, and van sales fell 5.3% to 84,103 units last month. The Odyssey plummeted 23% to 7,449, while the electric Prologue is sounding more like an epilogue as consumers only bought 1,508 for an 18.4% decline. The Ridgeline, HR-V, Pilot, and Passport were all down as well.

The only bright spot on the crossovers side was the CR-V, which was up 2.9%. It remains the brand’s best-selling vehicle by a wide margin as consumers bought 42,677 last month.

While the Passport was down, it wasn’t all bad news as 81% of buyers opted for the upscale TrailSport trim. It starts at $48,650 and the lineup consists of the regular TrailSport as well as Blackout, Elite, and Blackout Elite variants.

Given soaring gas prices, it’s not surprising to learn hybrids are flying off dealer lots. Customers bought more than 40,000 last month and over half of all Accords and CR-Vs are electrified.

Acura Had A Bad Month And The Future Looks Even Worse

The situation at Acura was far worse as sales fell 15.6% to 11,834 units. The RDX dropped 32.2% to 2,538 units and the model will soon be going on hiatus. Speaking of dead vehicles, dealers sold 81 TLXs and 10 ZDXs.

MDX sales remained relatively flat, while the ADX and Integra are doing fine. Sales of the latter jumped 27.1% last month and the model is up 26% year-to-date.
