• A rare 2003 Honda NSX-R may trade hands for up to $1.115 million.
  • Broad Arrow Auctions is also selling five desirable R34 Skyline GT-Rs.
  • One of the GT-Rs is an exceptionally rare Clubman Race Spec from Nismo.

The Concours d’Eleganza Villa d’Este has long belonged to a particular kind of car. The kind with coachwork by Pininfarina, an unbroken provenance stretching back to some industrialist’s garage in Turin, and a value that requires italics. So the news that this year’s auction at Lake Como will include a serious cluster of Japanese metal is worth paying attention to.

Two of these are rare Honda NSXs. The first, a 2003 NSX-R, is expected to sell for between $998,000 and $1.115 million. It is one of just 140 second-generation NSX-R models ever manufactured and was only recently exported from Japan.

It was selected for the NSX Refresh Plan in 2022, and during the factory restoration process, the engine was removed, the transmission overhauled, and all of the important exterior parts stripped and repainted. It’s been living in Germany and has 46,700 km (29,000 miles) on the odometer. As for the blue 1999 NSX Type S, it’s one of 209 units built and has been driven a little more, with 46,830 km (29,093 km) on the odo.

A quintet of extraordinary Nissan R34 Skyline GT-R models is also being offered during the Broad Arrow Auctions event. The most valuable of them all is a 2002 GT-R CRS from Nismo, one of fewer than 20 GT-Rs to undergo the CRS restoration at Nismo’s Omori factory. Behind the elusive Z-Tune, the Clubman Race Spec is arguably the most desirable of all R34 GT-R models. It could sell for between $822,000 and $998,000.

GT-R Heaven

The auction also includes a 2001 Skyline GT-R V-Spec II Nismo S-Tune. It will likely sell for between $587,000 and $822,000 and is the second of just 14 GT-R S-Tune models from Nismo. It’s been driven a touch under 11,000 km (6,800 miles).

Joining it on the auction block will be a 2001 GT-R M-Spec, valued at between $528,000 and $704,000. It’s not as rare, being one of 366 units built, and has 23,000 km (14,200 miles) on the clock, but as we’ve learned, people are willing to pay extraordinary sums for R34 models.

Another gem of the auction is a ‘regular’ 1999 GT-R painted in Midnight Purple II. It’s been modified by Hosaka Tuning Factory in Japan and may fetch as much as $469,000. Last but not least is a 2002 Skyline GT-R V-Spec II Nur, one of 156 painted in Millennium Jade, which could sell for $528,000.
