• Kimera’s K39 has finally been unveiled on the shores of Lake Como.
  • A bespoke Koenigsegg twin-turbo V8 replaces the old 4-cylinder setup.
  • A Pikes Peak race version arrives wearing full Martini Racing livery.

More than two years after the first teaser, Kimera Automobili’s K39 has been shown in full on the shores of Lake Como. Both road-legal and Pikes Peak race-spec versions were on hand. The K39 carries forward the Lancia bloodline that ran through Kimera’s EVO37 and EVO38, but the performance ceiling has been raised considerably.

The powertrain is where the project changes shape. Where the EVO37 and EVO38 made do with a 2.1-liter four-cylinder running both a turbocharger and a supercharger, the K39 is propelled by a bespoke twin-turbocharged V8 sourced from Koenigsegg.

This engine is similar to the one found in several models from the Swedish hypercar manufacturer, but the turbos are smaller to improve response. All up, the K39 delivers 1,000 hp at 7,350 rpm and 885 lb-ft (1,200 Nm) of torque at 5,500 rpm. Just like a Koenigsegg, the engine also loves to rev, maxing out at 8,250 rpm.

A True Supercar

Beyond the engine, significant developments have been made to the K39’s design. It retains a similar overall look to Kimera’s other models, and the Lancia 037 rally car that inspired them, but has been revised. The road car includes new headlights and a more sophisticated front end to improve aerodynamics. It ultimately looks more modern than the EVO37 and EVO38, which is no bad thing.

One of the biggest changes is found on the sides, where Kimera has widened the rear track and fitted a pair of huge air intakes to cool the new engine. The rear end also looks more in line with a legitimate supercar, featuring a distinctive engine cover, rear diffuser, and rear wing.

The Pikes Peak version takes things to a different level entirely. The front has now sprouted a massive splitter, while new skirts have been added to the sides. There are also bespoke wing mirrors, a roof scoop, and a massive rear wing paired with a gigantic rear diffuser. Clearly, this thing means business, and even has a Martini Racing livery.

Kimera says production of the K39 will be extremely limited, and although it hasn’t revealed how many will be built, it says more than twenty cars have already been allocated to buyers. Of these, the first ten will be offered a special Pikes Peak-inspired version of the race car with a bespoke aero package. Prices haven’t been announced, but if you have to ask, then you can’t afford it.
