• The 2027 Silverado arrives with new V8 engines and updated tech.
  • Every model gains a larger digital cockpit with enhanced connectivity.
  • The ZR2 adds 35-inch tires to become Chevy’s most capable off-roader.

Chevrolet has pulled the wraps off the next-generation 2027 Silverado 1500, and while the truck’s basic formula holds, the updates touch nearly every major area. From a pair of new V8 engines and a redesigned exterior to a vastly upgraded cabin and an expanded off-road lineup, Chevy is positioning the new Silverado as its most capable and technologically advanced half-ton pickup yet. On paper, that framing seems accurate.

V8 Power Returns In Force

The biggest attention-grabber is that Chevrolet is doubling down on V8 power. All-new 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter naturally aspirated engines that replace the old the old 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter units will sit alongside an updated 2.7-liter TurboMax four-cylinder and the familiar 3.0-liter Duramax diesel. According to Chevy, the new 6.6-liter delivers class-leading output among naturally aspirated V8-powered light-duty pickups, although the company hasn’t released final horsepower or torque figures just yet.

“We pushed these engines through an extensive testing and validation process to make sure they deliver the durability, capability and dependability Silverado customers expect,” said Mark Dickens, executive chief engineer. “From tough towing scenarios to the daily demands our customers put on their trucks, these next-generation V8s were engineered and proven to perform in the real world.”

Those engines are even more notable because from the outside, this Silverado is an evolution rather than a revolution. The front fascia is a touch more upright, and the truck gets new LED lighting signatures, larger wheel arch moldings, and grille treatments that vary by trim. Safety experts might not love those changes, but they’ll be novel for potential customers.

“The goal with the new Silverado was to create a truck that looks stronger, more modern with demanding presence at first glance, while staying true to the authentic truck character customers expect from Chevrolet,” Chevrolet Global Executive Design Director Phil Zak said.

Chevrolet has also streamlined the lineup. The LT trim disappears, replaced simply by “Silverado,” while the range now consists of Work Truck, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, Silverado, Trail Boss, ZR2, and High Country models.

Cabin Upgrades

This is where the biggest noticeable changes occur for those interested in the Silverado. A massive 16.3-inch infotainment display and a 12.2-inch digital instrument cluster are now standard regardless of trim level. Higher-spec ZR2 and High Country models add an 11.5-inch passenger display, a head-up display, and a digital rearview mirror.

The Silverado also gains dual wireless charging pads, a redesigned Multi-Flex center console, and expanded connectivity features throughout the lineup. Chevrolet’s Super Cruise remains available and continues to offer hands-free trailering capability, a feature the company says remains unique in the segment.

ZR2 Goes Further

Chevrolet calls the new Silverado ZR2 the most capable version of that trim ever. Those are big words, and meeting them takes some big upgrades. The truck rides on 35-inch mud-terrain tires, gets a two-inch lift, adds front and rear electronic locking differentials, and continues using Multimatic DSSV dampers. It also gets a more aggressive hood design and unique off-road styling cues.

For buyers who still think that’s not enough, the ZR2 Bison returns with American Expedition Vehicles-developed bumpers, additional underbody protection, beadlock-capable wheels, and extra trail-focused hardware. Meanwhile, the Trail Boss and Custom Trail Boss continue serving as more affordable off-road alternatives, both benefiting from 34-inch tires and a factory-installed two-inch lift.

High Country Goes Plush

On the flip side of the lineup is the High Country, which leans into the luxury. It gets 22-inch wheels, upgraded interior materials, and a panoramic sunroof. Those cabin materials include real wood trim, microfiber suede soft-touch surfaces, unique color themes, and tan-edged seatbelts. Yep, special seatbelts for your fancy truck.

Final specifications, towing figures, payload ratings, and pricing will be announced closer to launch. Production of the 2027 Silverado 1500 will take place at GM’s North American truck plants, with sales expected to begin before the end of the year.
