Renault has unveiled the Rafale Hypnotic, a new limited production special crowning the lineup of its flagship coupe-SUV. With a price tag of €63,550 ($72,600), the model is the most expensive SUV to wear the Renault emblem, outpricing rivals from Audi, BMW and Mercedes.

The Rafale Hypnotic is based on the Atelier Alpine trim but features an exclusive satin Forest Black shade, a black grille and darker badging. Other than that, it retains the tinted lights and the 21-inch alloy wheels, albeit with a satin finish.

Inside, Renault chose a combination of Alcantara and textured fabric upholstery with tricolor blue, white and red stitching. The dashboard is also covered in Alcantara, the seatbacks have illuminated Alpine emblems, and there is more black trim around the cabin. Furthermore, an individually numbered plaque on the center console confirms the rarity of the special edition that will be capped at 1,500 units.

As the new flagship of the Rafale lineup, the Hypnotic has more generous standard equipment compared to lesser trims. More specifically it comes with the LED Matrix vision headlights, the Solarbay opacifying panoramic glass roof, a 9-speaker Harman Kardon audio system, a head-up display, hands-free parking, a 360-degree camera, puddle lights and heated front seats with massaging function for the driver.

Naturally, the special edition is fitted with the most potent hyper hybrid E-Tech 4×4 300 HP powertrain. The plug-in hybrid setup comprises a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine and a trio of electric motors producing a combined 296 hp (221 kW / 300 PS). At the same time, the 22 kWh battery pack offers up to 65 miles (105 km) of zero-emission range under the WLTP cycle.

The coupe-SUV also features an Alpine-tuned chassis complete with 4Control Advanced four-wheel steering and camera-predictive active suspension.

Priced at €63,550 ($72,600) in France, the Rafale Hypnotic has a premium of €3,300 ($3,800) over the Atelier Alpine and a full €7,800 ($8,900) more than the Esprit Alpine with the same powertrain. The flagship Renault is also more expensive than entry-level versions of the DS No8, Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, and Audi Q5 Sportback.

Prospective buyers across 14 European markets can place their orders starting October 1st, with deliveries scheduled for late 2026. The SUV will make its first public outing at the 2026 Paris Motor Show on October 12.

Interestingly, Renault is not the first French brand to use a sleep-related moniker on a high-riding flagship. In late 2023, Citroën introduced the C5 X Hypnos limited edition, which featured a 222 hp (165 kW / 225 PS) plug-in hybrid powertrain, a special Eclipse Blue shade, a comfort-focused active suspension, and a price tag of €58,400 ($63,000 at launch).
