Now here’s an unusual couple for a common test session: the 2019 BMW X7 and 2019 Toyota Supra.

Both have been spotted hanging out together in central Copenhagen, Denmark by our reader Kai, who kindly shared two photographs with us.

Why would these two very different cars test together, you ask? Well, it’s probably for logistics reasons, given that both prototypes carry Munich license plates. We saw the Supra quite a few times before in the company of its platform sibling, the BMW Z4. However, it’s the first time the X7 has a testing companion.

We assume the team is doing some city testing with the massive SUV and compact sports car. The 2019 BMW X7 is only weeks away from its world debut at the LA Auto Show next month. That can means the team is putting the finishing touches on the three-row SUV. As for the Supra, its world premiere has been confirmed for the Detroit Auto Show in January 2019.

The only thing the X7 and the Supra have in common is the engine and transmission. We’re talking about the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline six gasoline engine that will produce around 330 hp (335 PS) in the range-topping Supra. As in all other BMW applications, it will work with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The BMW X7 will offer the same engine and gearbox combo, but it will sit at the lower end of the big SUV’s lineup. A 4.4-liter V8 with 456 hp will also be available, along with a twin-turbocharged version of the same engine making 522 hp. The X7 is likely to offer at least two diesel versions and a plug-in hybrid option, but none of those will be available for Supra customers.

Thanks to Kai for the scoops!
