Can The 707hp Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk Beat The Tesla Model X P100D?

The Tesla Model X P100D is one of the quickest crossovers on the market and we’ve already seen the model beat the Lamborghini Urus in a drag race.

While the Urus has a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that produces 641 hp (478 kW / 650 PS) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque, those impressive figures are no match for the numbers generated by the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.

Featuring a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that develops 707 hp (527 kW / 716 PS) and 645 lb-ft (873 Nm) of torque, the high-performance model can rocket from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.5 seconds and run the quarter-mile in 11.6 seconds at 180 mph (289 km/h).

That’s pretty impressive for a 5,356 lbs (2,429 kg) SUV, but can it beat the Model X P100D? Carwow wanted to find out so they pitted the two models against one another.

After waiting for 15 minutes to allow the Tesla’s battery to warm up, the race begins and the Grand Cherokee takes an early lead. However, the Tesla eventually catches up and manages to overtake the Grand Cherokee for the win.

The video says the Model X ran the quarter-mile in 11.8 seconds, which means it should have been beaten by the Grand Cherokee if Carwow would have been able to replicate the time claimed by FCA. Of course, they weren’t able to do that as the model ran the quarter-mile in 11.9 seconds.

Even if they were able to replicate the quarter-mile time of 11.6 seconds, it doesn’t necessarily mean the Grand Cherokee would have won. As the reviewer notes, they’ve previously clocked a quarter-mile time of 11.3 seconds in the Model X.

whelp, much closer than I thought it would be

    • Andrewthecarguy

      Right?!
This means that Urus is slow!! I’d like to see the GLC 63S go against the Urus.

      • Seats & a steering wheel

Urus beat the Model X on proper drag strip on the Dragtimes channel. The Tesla Model X owner was driving the Urus too! I say call for a rematch!

        • Andrewthecarguy

Really?? I gotta check that out. The carwow dragrace looked like the Urus was not up to par and they raced twice.

  • Matt

The GLC63 is the real winner here – so much closer than you’d think considering its power disadvantage.

    • Andrewthecarguy

      Exactly.
The X3 ///M has a lot to worry about so far…

  • TheBelltower

Tractor-based performance vehicles are going to go the way of the dinosaur. If the latest and best that Jeep and Mercedes have to offer can’t keep up with a Tesla SUV that’s been on the market for two years, then it’s basically game over.

    • Matt

Does calling ICE vehicles ‘tractor-based’ make you feel superior to us great unwashed petrolheads? I mean no doubt EV’s have huge performance potential but why the snide remarks?

      • TheBelltower

Nope, that’s not it. I own several ICE vehicles. The reality is, Tesla makes even the best gas powered vehicles feel crude and ancient. The cheeky remarks are not directed at the owners of these cars, but at the automakers who have been too complacent.

        • Dennis James

Now imagine if automakers hadn’t been too complacent and all vehicles were EV’s. This would mean you would have to stop for a few hours every couple of hours of driving, in order to charge your car’s battery.

          • Andrewthecarguy

Agreed, And until this fundamental issue of range is solved, the ‘tractor-based’ will continue to rule.

          • TheBelltower

EV’s don’t currently make as much sense as ICE vehicles if you are driving cross country. But for day-to-day driving, EV’s save an enormous amount of time and effort because they eliminate fueling and regular service almost completely.

    • Seats & a steering wheel

The current generation Grand Cherokee (which the Trackhawk is) goes back to 2012 and the GLC platform is at least a couple of years old too. Model X P 100 d is more expensive than both too..and this is all we talk about any kind of circuit racing and issues of batteries overheating. Tiff Needle completed ONE LAP in the specially race prepped Model S before it gave up because it got too hot!!

  • Bash

This only makes me want the 707 JGC Trackhawk even more!

  • john1168

I’m very surprised how well the Mercedes did.

  • owlafaye

What is a JEEP doing roaring about and drag racing Teslas? A small engine with good grunt and gears should suffice.

  • Blade t

Pretty close race ,but you can get the trackhawk for 50k less than the tesla.
