Street Cars Take To Oval Track, Mustang Driver Loses It And Hits The Wall

A spectator race took place back in September at the New Smyrna Speedway in Florida, where the driver of a Ford Mustang lost control and slid into the barrier next to the finish line.

As a result, the airbags deployed and bits began to fly off the Mustang, whose driver was thankfully OK, managing to get out of the car without any help. He was however clearly shaken up – and, we guess, upset over what had happened.

Now, Mustang drivers have a bad rep, and in many cases, it’s for a good reason. However, this accident didn’t take place during a car meet and the driver didn’t try to impress bystanders. Things like these might happen when you’re pushing on a track.

As for the car, we figure that getting it fixed is a possibility, despite the airbags deploying and the considerably harsh right rear corner impact. However, we imagine that the guy’s insurance company isn’t going to be very understanding, seen as how the crash didn’t take place on a public road but in a circuit.

If you want to skip directly to the moment of impact, go to the 1:50 minute mark and wait for the camera to catch up with the action. Still, you might want to watch the entire video, seen as how there are a few interesting match-ups out there, plus some really loud engines.

There could be numerous reasons as to why he crashed but we’re going to ignore all of them and just point out that it was Mustang. I mean, it gets views so.

  • Bo Hanan

Isn’t the GT350 designed for the track?
I mean one of the cars racing was a 1991 Mitsubishi Diamante and it did just fine.

    • Jay

Yes but the driver was not. Apparently they can’t race themselves…

  • ErnieB

    That was painful to watch!

  • kachuks

Didn’t watch the whole thing, but did that dude climb out of that stang without a helmet?

    • Jay

      Yep. No fire suit either..

      • HaltestelleLuitpolthafen

        Fire suit?

I frequently attend HPDEs and I’ve never been required to wear a suit in non-competitive track events. VIR, Summit Point, Monticello, none of them required a suit.

        • Jay

Maybe they should. You know, just in case as with the helmet.

  • James Denz

I love my ’16 GT but man, it’s tail happy.

  • Stigasawuswrecks

A Mustang crashing? I’m shocked I tell you. Shocked!

  • Wandering_Spirit

    I notice 2 things.
    A) The driver of the truck drives in a truck as he’d do in the highway…that is in the middle of the track bothering everyone and not even realizing (unless he’s a feature put there on purpose his presence is unexplainable).
    B) I would like to humbly insist on the fact that even assuming all Mustang drivers are dumb, those cars need better dedicated suspensions, better chassis, a wider body. The conflation of lack of skills and unfit car is deadly.

If your’e gonna be young and dumb…make sure that you are also rich.
Just the look of disgust from dude tells me that the Mustang is his ONLY sled.
Gonna have to scrape together a coupla grand for a reliable beater.Something I’m sure he thought was in his rearview lifestyle-wise.That little cutie you tried to impress with your “driving skill”…gone. Worth it?

The entire race…and it’s participants just had TRAILER PARK FAIL written all over it.

I’m stunned coffee apparently was not involved.

  • Blade t

Looks like they were all having some fun out there,,besides the Mustang owner..
