After seven years in production, the second generation Ford Kuga is ready to be replaced. The Mk3 will be presented next Tuesday, April 2, as an official teaser published on social media has revealed.

The video focuses (pun intended) on some of the exterior features of the compact crossover, which look similar to those of the latest Focus. Similarities can be seen by looking at the headlights and tailgate, and that’s not a surprise, given that the two vehicles have almost identical underpinnings.

From a design perspective, the next-gen Kuga borrows a number of styling cues from the compact hatch, albeit with a higher ground clearance and plastic cladding. Spy shots have revealed a sportier styling compared to the outgoing model, an approach that should help it challenge the likes of the Nissan Qashqai, Hyundai Tucson and Honda CR-V.

The interior is dominated by a large infotainment screen that sits at the top of the center console. Elsewhere, the overall quality of materials has likely been improved, and as is evident in the teaser, the vehicle also has a rotary gear selector in models equipped with the automatic gearbox.

The engine lineup will be detailed in due course, but we expect the usual petrol and diesel units, depending on market, and a nine-speed automatic transmission as either an option or standard according to the version. Electrified models are reportedly being considered, too, though it’ll probably be a while until we see them – if they get greenlit, that is.
