Porsche 992 vs Audi R8 vs GT-R NISMO vs BMW M850i: A Drag Race Full Of Surprises

The new Porsche 911 has arrived and it’s time to see how does it fare against some direct (and some less direct) rivals on the quarter mile and during a rolling race.

If you want one of the first 992 examples on the market, Porsche is currently offering just the Carrera S and the Carrera 4S versions. Both of them are powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six engine producing 443hp (450PS) and 391lb-ft (530Nm) of torque and paired to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The very yellow Carrera 4S that Carwow features in its latest drag race video can officially sprint from 0-62mph (100km/h) in 3.4 seconds with the Sport Plus. More impressively it can hit 124mph (200km/h) from standing in 12.4 seconds. Top speed is set at 190mph (306km/h).

The latest iteration of the Audi R8 Performance is the only naturally aspirated car of the drag race, featuring the glorious 5.2-liter V10 with 611hp (620PS) and 427lb-ft (580Nm) of torque. The official 0-62mph is 3.1 seconds and top speed is 205mph (331km/h).

Then we get the Nissan GT-R Nismo, featuring a 3.8-liter V6 with 592hp (600PS) and 481lb-ft (652Nm) of torque. 0-62mph is somewhere in the region of low 3s, as Nissan never released an official figure for it.

Finally we get perhaps the most out-of-place member of this company; the BMW M850i. The luxury four-seater coupe might be seen as an easy victim for the others but actually it did pretty good for itself, thanks to its twin-turbo V8 producing 523hp (530PS) and 553lb-ft (750Nm) of torque. BMW says it’s capable of a 0-62mph in 3.7 seconds.

While the winner might not be a surprise, the performance of some cars here might catch you off guard.

    So now we know the BMW M8 and the Porsche GT2 will be devastating.
    * 450 HP 911 was hanging tough.
    * GTR forgot itself.
    * Audi R8 is brutal.

    I wasn’t expecting the GTR to win the rolling start race.

    R8 by far, just cuz its sounds so epic while it beats everyone. Others might ultimately be faster but, not more exciting.
