Honda Minivan Driver Runs Red Light, Instantly Regrets Decision

When a driver runs a red light, it’s usually because they’re in a hurry or oblivious as to what they’re doing. In this particular case, the person driving the white Honda Odyssey was stationary prior to the crash, and for some reason entered the intersection before the light turned green.

That’s not exactly the type of error you expect to see in traffic, but according to the description of the video, the minivan driver was also ticketed for cellphone use, which kind of explains their compromised attention.

Collateral damage

The driver of the semi truck also says that the minivan “did clip and spin the motorbike, but that does not show in the video.” Thankfully nobody was seriously hurt, which is almost surprising seen as how the rig smashed directly into the driver’s side door of the Odyssey.

It’s safe to assume that the curtain airbags played a major role here, otherwise the driver’s head could have impacted the window or the pillar – which is what tends to happen when you’re hit laterally (your head is jolted towards the impact area).

All things considered, this incident could have ended a lot worse for everybody involved, especially the motorcycle rider (who actually slowed down in anticipation of what was about to happen) and his passenger.

As for when and where the incident took place, that would be a few months back (March 30th) in upstate New York.

I am honestly surprised there were no fatalities. That Odyssey driver could have killed himself and everyone around him. How could you not see a Harley and a semi coming both directions?!

i hate old people …after the age of 65 ..they should be retested for driving

      • charlotteharry57

While I’m 10 years away, we hate twenty and younger-somethings. How do you even know the driver was 65+?

      • Loquacious Borborygmus

What about continuously crap young drivers?

      • Mr. EP9

And I hate ageist little turds like yourself. Don’t act like you’re any better because you’re not.

      • TrevP

has zero to do with age. Its about obeying the law and putting down the god damn phone and paying attention to driving.

      • Bo Hanan

The guy jumping out of the van looked pretty lively.

  • carlbolt

In this case I just wish the Honda was not so safe maybe that sounds too cruel

  • ctk4949

    Dumbass!!

  • charlotteharry57

Usually, Odysseys are filled with kidlins. Not a mention of that.

  • DetrinKD

You can actually see the motorcycle get clipped in the trucks front sideview mirrors.

    • ChrisInIL

Looks more like the bike swerved to avoid, and the passenger fell off as the bike toppled.

  • Thunderbolt

My absentminded ex-wife used to go on red for some reason, and used to stop on green to read her text message.
God knows how many time other drivers honked at her driving.
This is why we have some little number of female in F1, F2, F3, Indy500, Grand Prix,…etc.

    • McFly

That says more about your choice of woman. Female drivers are safer generally than male.

      • Bill Nguyen

I think I read that there was a study that came to the conclusion that women were safer drivers once… Though all the women I know are terrible drivers lol. Most can’t even park.

        • McFly

Again, that says more about the women you get to know. 😉

There has been lots of studies that proved that women are safer drivers.
A cool study that In-Car Cleverness made monitored 10000 rental cars. It showed that even if female drivers were 17 % more likely to exceed the speed limit, male drivers were 500 % more likely to be in an accident.

          • Bill Nguyen

Haha, well, I was trying to agree with you! But it just happens that the women I know suck. Women seem to know their limitations and don’t go above that, where we all think we’re pro race drivers hehe.

          • McFly

Sorry about that, it was an open goal I couldn’t resist.

Yes, a huge problem is that 70 percent of all men think they are above average drivers 🙂

  • ErnieB

That bike though towards the end was pretty cool though

  • Paul

What an idiot, clearly distracted to do something that stupid. Lucky he didn’t get killed or the bikers even.

  • Pohl Pot

What about the yellow light for the semi, I know the red was there but a yellow, you should planned to stop.

    • MZ

if the light turned yellow at the start of the video, yes. The light didn’t turn yellow until the truck got close to the intersection. Its 40 tons, you can’t just slow down and accelerate whenever you feel like based on a hunch.

  • Bill Nguyen

Not surprised, especially with the size of phones nowadays hehe.
