Mazda CX-30 Excels In Euro NCAP Crash Tests, New Opel Corsa Gets Four Stars

The European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) conducted another round of testing, releasing the safety ratings for four new vehicles: the Mazda CX-30, Mercedes-Benz GLB, Ford Explorer PHEV and Opel/Vauxhall Corsa.

Topping the list for the Adult Occupant Protection in the 2018/2019 protocols is the Mazda CX-30, which has achieved a “near perfect” 99 percent score. The Japanese compact crossover did 86 percent in Child Occupant, 80 percent in Pedestrian and 77 percent in Safety Assist.

“Congratulations to Mazda for another almost-perfect score in adult occupant safety”, said Euro NCAP Secretary General, Michiel van Ratingen. “There are still several cars to be rated in 2019, but it is unlikely we will see better for this part of the assessment.”

Scoring the maximum 5-star safety rating were the Mercedes-Benz GLB and Ford Explorer Hybrid, too. The German car did 92, 88, 78 and 74 percent in Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Pedestrian and Safety Assist, respectively, whereas the Ford scored 87, 86, 61 and 76 percent.

“Congratulations to Ford and Mercedes-Benz for their five-star ratings, too”, added van Ratingen. “Euro NCAP is now gearing up for new tests in 2020, but we’re confident that manufacturers will continue to deliver the highest levels of safety to their customers.”

Like its French sibling, the Peugeot 208, the new generation Opel/Vauxhall Corsa missed out on the top score, getting a four-star rating. The subcompact hatchback was rated at 84 percent for Adult Occupant, 86 percent for Child Occupant, 66 percent for Pedestrian and 69 percent for the Safety Assist category.
