Having to choose between the Jaguar F-Pace SVR and BMW X3 M as your next daily driver is a pretty nice dilemma to have.
Both look good, are practical, comfortable and insanely fast should you want to abuse the fun pedal, but which one is quicker in a straight-line? The answer to this question comes from South Africa’s CarMagazine, who put the two vehicles against each other in a quarter-mile drag race, which we’ll get to in a moment, after checking out the technical specs.

As far as power is concerned, the British SUV holds the high ground, as its 5.0-liter supercharged V8 produces 542 hp (550 PS / 405 kW) and 502 lb-ft (680 Nm) of torque. Its German rival is less powerful, with the Competition variant, which was the one used in this test, enjoying 503 hp (510 PS / 375 kW) and 441 lb-ft (598 Nm) of torque.
However, despite the power deficit, zero to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) takes only 4.0 seconds in the X3 M, which tops out at 177 mph (284 km/h) with the optional M Driver’s Package, and 4.1 seconds in the F-Pace SVR, which is capable of sprinting up to 176 mph (283 km/h).
As with all drag races, you have to factor in other stuff, like the power-to-weight ratio, tires and ultimately the driver, as their reaction time could mean the difference between winning and losing.
