At the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, Brabus unveiled the Ultimate E, a souped-up version of the Smart EQ Fortwo before it got facelifted.

Now, Brabus has taken the mid-cycle update into account and revealed the Ultimate E Facelift based on the revised Smart EQ Fortwo Cabrio. It was supposed to debut at the Geneva Motor Show, but since the event got canceled, the German company has decided to keep it under wraps for longer.

Here it is, then: a widebody Smart EQ Fortwo Cabrio riding on 18-inch Monoblock Y forged wheels and featuring an upgraded powertrain as well as an exclusive Brabus fine leather interior.

The recipe stays largely the same as last year’s Ultimate E, and that goes for the power upgrade too. The output of the electric motor was increased to 68 kW (91 HP / 92 PS) and the peak torque rose to 180 Nm (133 lb-ft), enabling the Ultimate E Facelift to sprint from rest to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 10.9 seconds in Sport+ mode. The top speed is not impressive either as it remains limited it to 130 km/h (81 mph).

There are four different drive modes available: Level 1 (stock), Eco (increases the energy recovery rate), Sport (quicker acceleration response, lower energy recovery rate), and Sport+ (unleashes the powertrain’s full potential). Since we’re still talking about an EV, it must be said that the driving range of the souped-up Smart EQ Fortwo can reach 125 km (78 miles) on one battery charge, depending on the driving style.

The car’s looks certainly suggest more impressive performance than the Brabus Ultimate E actually delivers. The Widestar widebody kit, aggressive bumpers with large intakes at the front and sizable diffuser at the rear, as well as the exclusive 18-inch forged wheels make it the meanest Smart EQ Fortwo to have.

The size of the high-performance tires is certainly unusual for a minicar: 205/35 R18 at the front and 235/30 R18 at the rear, mounted on 7Jx18-inch and 8Jx18-inch rims, respectively.

The all-leather interior is just as striking. The Geneva show car was configured with soft and breathable black Brabus Mastik leather upholstery accented with bright red double-stitching and honeycomb quilting on sports seats and door panels. The Brabus Ultimate E Facelift also features aluminum pedals, shifter and emergency brake handle, scuff plates with illuminated Brabus logo, and branded leather floor mats.

If you’ve read this far, you’re probably curious about the price. That would be €49,449 (approximately $53,710), excluding VAT. Only 50 units will be made.
