With its mid-engine, rear-wheel drive layout and supercar performance wrapped in an affordable package, in entry-level form at least, the new generation Chevrolet Corvette C8 has won the hearts and minds of petrol heads all over the world.

Hennessey seems to have developed an obsession with America’s mid-engined sports car for the masses, as they have tuned several examples so far. As for the one that lined up at the start line next to its predecessor, a bone-stock C7 Stingray, it received a stainless steel exhaust system and new lightweight wheels shod in race tires.

Mind you, this is the same car that drag raced a Lamborghini Huracan a couple of weeks ago, putting its extra 15 HP, compared to the standard C8, to the test. We will remind you that the new-gen Corvette comes with up to 495 HP produced by the 6.2-liter V8, has a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) acceleration of under 3 seconds and can max out at 194 mph (312 km/h), while the quarter-mile is completed in 11.2 seconds, according to the bowtie brand’s official estimate, at 121 mph (195 km/h).

The previous iteration of the ‘Vette comes with a 460 HP 6.2-liter V8 and is notably slower. The 0 to 60 mph (0-96 km/h) sprint takes 3.6 seconds with the optional 8-speed automatic transmission and Z07 Performance Package, so the new C8 should obliterate it, but is that the case?
