While this may look like a classic Ford Mustang with somewhat odd proportions, it is actually a Mazda RX-8 that is rocking the body of a ’67 ‘Stang.

We recently stumbled across the car after browsing through old listings on the Ontario Auto Classifieds page on Facebook. It appears to have been sold by the owner and builder in mid-2019 and is an RX-8 unlike any other.

Although the bodywork is far from complete, the Mazda underpinnings, including the cabin, appear to be in reasonably good condition. The seller states it features Mazda’s 13B engine, which we assume is the 13B-MSP Renesis that first appeared in production in the 2003 RX-8.

If that’s the case, the engine is a naturally aspirated unit producing anywhere from 189 hp to 238 hp, depending on the specification. Mated to Mazda’s signature rotary engine is a six-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels, which leads us to believe that the engine is the 238 hp one, which in the RX-8 was the one available with a six-speed manual.

Of the images shared online, one we find particularly interesting showcases the interior. It reveals an almost standard RX-8 cabin, including two-tone brown and black leather across the seats and steering wheel, with a set of ’67 Mustang doors. The trim of the doors is at odds with the rest of the cabin and the doors don’t even fit particularly well. Of course, the vehicle isn’t finished and needs a lot of work before it could be considered complete and driven on the road.
