Crossovers might be king, but April’s fastest-selling vehicle was a sports car.

According to iSeeCars, new Corvettes only took 9.2 days to sell and had an average transaction price of $87,390. Both figures are significantly better than the average of 48.3 days and $37,558 but it’s worth noting many Corvettes have been ordered ahead of time.

The model was followed by the plug-in hybrid Jeep Wrangler 4xe which took 10.5 days to sell and typically brought in $57,161. The final podium spot went to the Kia Telluride, which spent an average of 12.6 days on dealer lots and sold for an average of $44,723.

They were closely followed by the Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid (12.8 days / $39,285) and Lexus IS 350 (13.4 days / $49,348). Rounding out the top ten are the Toyota RAV4 Prime (13.7 days / $43,983), Cadillac Escalade (13.9 days / $99,970), Kia Carnival (13.9 days / $40,368), Toyota Tacoma (15.0 days / $37,682) and GMC Yukon (15.5 days / $75,204).

Unfortunately, there’s trouble on the horizon as iSeeCars executive analyst Karl Brauer noted, “The microchip shortage is showing up as a clear constriction to new car supply, as we’ve seen a 16.6% drop in new car inventory over just the past four weeks from April to May.” He added, “The significant decrease in inventory suggests demand continues to outpace supply, and these hot sellers will likely be even more difficult to find in the coming months.”

On the used car side of things, the fastest-selling vehicle was the BMW 2-Series which only took an average of 21.9 days to sell and typically brought in $32,835. That compares to the average of 37.4 days and $27,783.

It was followed by the Mazda MX-5 Miata (22.2 days / $23,699) and Chevrolet Corvette (23.2 days / $70,131). Rounding out the top five where the Hyundai Palisade (25.5 days / $41,113) and Kia Telluride (25.5 days / $41,044).

While the study only looked at used cars from the 2016-2020 model years, demand is picking up as used cars sold an average of two days faster compared to March. Brauer also noted “High-performance vehicles have been popular during the pandemic as a source of joy.”
