The BMW XM is a high-performance hybrid SUV that breaks from tradition so it’s only fitting that a newly-released commercial for the SUV is equally as unusual.

The commercial is dubbed ‘Break The Norm’ and features six-time Grammy-nominated music artist Chief Adjuah. The successful musician both narrates the commercial and composed the soundtrack, describing how the XM “changes the game,” and stating that you’ve “gotta do what others don’t.”

With plenty of flashing lights, dramatic shots of the XM, and an intriguing soundtrack, it’s certainly a very interesting commercial. Will it help generate sales for the hybrid SUV? We’re not so sure, but at the very least, it should help to generate some extra interest in it.

BMW lifted the veil on the long-awaited XM in late September, almost a year after the SUV was showcased in concept guise. Not only is the XM the most eye-catching model in BMW’s current range but it is also one of the craziest SUVs ever conceived. For those wanting extraordinary performance and are eager to stand out, it is hard to beat.

Powering the XM is a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 that alone is good for 483 hp and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque. This engine is coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission driving all four wheels while bolted to the gearbox is a single electric motor that’s good for 194 hp. Combined, the XM churns out 644 hp at 5,400 rpm and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque between 1,600 and 5,000 rpm. The SUV can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.1 seconds which is impressive for an SUV of this size but is slower than the X6 M.

A flagship variant of the XM will follow the base model to the market next year. Dubbed the Label Red, it is adorned with various red accents but more importantly, has a modified powertrain with 738 hp and 735 lb-ft (997 Nm) of torque.
