The sixth generation of the Opel Corsa has been around since 2019 as the first model of the automaker riding on Stellantis underpinnings. Four years later it is time for the mid-lifecycle update of the supermini which finally gets the Opel Vizor treatment and additional technology inside the cabin, while benefiting from a more powerful and efficient electric powertrain plus two mild-hybrid options.

The highlight of the exterior updates is the Opel Vizor face with a shiny black grille connecting the new headlights. Speaking of lighting units, the optional Intelli-Lux LED matrix technology now features 14 elements instead of 8. The Opel Blitz logo can be either black or matte satin silver. Additionally, the redesigned bumper gets a set of slimmer but purely cosmetic side intakes for a sharper look. The rest of the bodywork is largely carried over, with the addition of a new Grafik Grey paint option optionally combined with black for the roof, mirror caps, emblems, and bumper trim.

Moving inside, Opel designers added a new steering wheel, a revised shift lever, and fresh upholstery for the seats. However, the most important update is the addition of an optional digital instrument cluster which can be mated to a 10-inch touchscreen mounted on the center console. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Cockpit Platform brings new graphics and AI capabilities to the infotainment which now supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The navigation is now compatible with over-the-air updates and more natural voice recognition. Furthermore, the Corsa benefits from a new high-resolution panoramic rear-view camera, and plenty of available ADAS including the adaptive cruise control.

Two Electric And Two Mild-Hybrid Options

The mid-lifecycle update of the Opel Corsa is not skin deep, as the automaker equipped the supermini with the latest bits of Stellantis powertrain tech which has already debuted in many other CMP/eCMP-based offerings.

Starting with the Corsa Electric, the model is now available with two powertrain options. The standard model produces the same 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS) but boasts an increased WLTP range of 357 km (222 miles). There is also a more powerful version with a new and more efficient electric motor that produces 154 hp (115 kW / 156 PS) and is mated to a larger 54 kWh battery pack (up from 50 kWh) allowing a WLTP range of 406 km (252 miles). When connected to a fast charger, the battery can go from 20% to 80% in 30 minutes.

More importantly, the Opel Corsa becomes the automaker’s first model to offer mild-hybrid options. The new turbocharged 1.2-liter engine with the 48-volt system is available in two outputs producing 99 hp (74 kW / 100 PS) or 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS). Both are exclusively combined with the new six-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Besides the electrified options, Opel confirmed that the facelifted Corsa will be available with “efficient combustion engines” in the future. This likely refers to the non-electrified turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine with 134 hp (100 kW / 136 PS) that is already offered on the mechanically-related Opel Mokka with a six-speed manual gearbox. Opel wants to become an EV-only brand in Europe by 2028, which most likely means that this is going to be the last generation of the Corsa offered with combustion engines.

The company didn’t announce pricing and availability for the facelifted Opel Corsa which is expected to be pricier than the model it replaces. The supermini faces less competition after the demise of the Ford Fiesta and the Kia Rio, but still has strong rivals including the Peugeot 208 stablemate which will be updated soon, the recently facelifted Renault Clio, the Toyota Yaris, the VW Polo, and the Skoda Fabia.
