- Toyota teased its upcoming GR performance flagship at Japan’s Fuji Speedway.
- The LFA’s successor will wear GR badges in roadgoing and racing versions.
- Power comes from a hybrid setup featuring a twin-turbocharged V8 engine.
Update: Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda has confirmed that Toyota’s long-awaited GR GT will finally break cover before the year is out. The announcement came during a livestream, where Toyoda kept specifics under wraps but stated that the company plans to unveil its flagship supercar on December 4, a few weeks before its first public showing at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon, which runs from January 10 to 12.
Toyoda also reaffirmed what we reported earlier, that the recent change in signage at Fuji Speedway is indeed connected to the new supercar known as the GR GT.
The original story continues below.
Toyota is gearing up for a series of announcements tied to a new mysterious project that brings together its Gazoo Racing, Lexus, Century, and Daihatsu sub-brands. Ahead of the October 13 press conference, the company released an early glimpse of a much-anticipated supercar set to carry the GR emblem.
The news broke out on X where the official account of Toyota Motor Corporation shared photos of a new sign at the Fuji Speedway track in Japan named the “GT Corner”. This shows the classic Toyota 2000GT from 1967, the Lexus LFA from 2010, and a new supercar with the GR emblem on its nose.
Whether the GT Corner name is simply symbolic or hints at the car’s official title, potentially GR GT, remains to be seen.

The accompanying caption reads: “On the right is the 2000GT, next to it is the LFA, and next to that is…?” The teaser suggests Toyota has moved away from the rumored Lexus LFR name for the LFA’s successor, instead developing it as a pure Gazoo Racing creation.
Photos of camouflaged prototypes, both track and road versions, indicate this new flagship builds on the 2022 Toyota GR GT3 concept.
Over the past few years, the car has been spotted repeatedly during development testing and even made appearances at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The latest teaser shows LED headlights, a black stripe, and bumper intakes that align closely with the roadgoing prototype. The racing version adds sharper aerodynamic elements, additional LED clusters, and side-mounted exhausts for a more focused profile.

The upcoming supercar is expected to sit on an aluminum chassis wrapped in carbon fiber bodywork, pairing lightness with rigidity. Power is rumored to come from a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine supported by electric motors as part of a self-charging hybrid system.

This combination would place the new GR machine squarely in the realm of modern hybrid supercars, bridging Toyota’s racing expertise with its electrified technology.
Toyota Beyond the GR GT
While it was originally believed that Toyota’s October 13 announcement about the GR GT would unveil the car itself, it turned out to be a reveal of a different kind, simply confirming the official presentation date of December 4.
Instead, the event outlined the upcoming concepts from the Century, Lexus, Toyota, and Daihatsu brands that will be showcased at the Japan Mobility Show, which opens to the public from October 31 through November 9.
