• Australian tuner PVS has built a special Land Cruiser 76 Series wagon.
  • SUV gains off-road accessories by Urnieta, and a bespoke interior.
  • Rugged conversion has nearly tripled the price of the donor vehicle.

When it comes to rugged SUVs that tuners love to modify, the conversation usually revolves around the Mercedes G-Class, the Land Rover Defender, and the Toyota Land Cruiser 250 Series. These heavy-hitting names tend to dominate garage floors and social media builds, but now something a little more left-field has entered the frame.

Australian outfit PVS Automotive has revealed a custom take on the long-serving Land Cruiser 70 Series, adding a selection of off-road upgrades and a plush interior filled with premium materials and modern tech.

The build starts with a 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser 76 Series Wagon GXL, showing just 128 km (80 miles) on the odometer. Notably, it’s among the final units still sold without an AdBlue system for the turbodiesel engine.

First introduced in 1984, the boxy workhorse remains available in select markets like Japan and Australia, where recent updates have kept it just modern enough to stay relevant.

A Purpose-Built Exterior

Starting with the exterior, PVS worked with parts sourced entirely from Urnieta, a specialist known for its Land Cruiser modifications. The upgrades include a newly designed front bumper, tubular side steps, roof rack, side-mounted storage brackets, a spare wheel cover, and a rear access ladder.

The snorkel and the wide fender extensions were already fitted on the vehicle from the factory, with the blacked-out theme making it more appealing. Furthermore, the SUV rides on a new set of black forged wheels shod in grippy tires.

As a finishing touch, the company added a XPEL self-healing PPF wrap that will keep it fresh for longer.

A Very Blue Interior

The interior transformation is even more dramatic than the exterior. Gone is the stripped-back cabin of the standard model, replaced with something far more tailored. The factory seats make way for a pair of Recaro Cross Sportster GK100 buckets, and the steering wheel, complete with with carbon fiber accents, comes from a Toyota Tundra.

The entire cabin, from headliner to door cards, is finished in deep Blue Alcantara. Orange contrast stitching, dashboard accents, and even seatbelts cut through the monochrome, giving the space an oddly concept-car-like feel. PVS notes the goal was to shift the interior “closer to a concept build than a farm truck,” and they’ve leaned into that mission fully.

On the tech front, the 70 Series now runs on a 9-inch infotainment display with modern connectivity features. Another cool touch is the rear drawer system on the boot, complete with a tailgate-mounted table so you can enjoy picnics in the Australian outback.

Powering the build is the standard 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, producing 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. It’s paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel drive, complete with a locking centre differential.

PVS hasn’t mentioned any upgrades to the ladder-frame chassis or suspension components, so it appears the mechanical side remains largely untouched.

A Pricey Proposition

The modified Land Cruiser is being offered for sale as a finished vehicle at AU$200,000 (equal to US$131,000 at current exchange rates) before taxes, which brings the total to roughly AU$220,000 (US$145,000). The model is located in Sydney, though PVS can arrange transport anywhere in the country.

A quick check of Toyota Australia’s official website shows that a brand-new Land Cruiser Wagon GXL automatic currently starts at AU$84,935 (US$55,800). That puts the cost of this conversion at nearly three times the price of the base vehicle, clearly aimed at off-road enthusiasts with some serious budgets.
