• Audi is preparing a fifth-generation A6 Allroad for global markets.
  • Type-approval filings confirmed the high-riding wagon’s return.
  • Lineup could skip gasoline in favor of diesel and plug-in hybrid power.

The SUV boom has swallowed most of the segments around it, but Audi keeps defending the high-riding wagon it has built since 1999. A fifth-generation A6 Allroad Quattro is on the way, and the confirmation came not from Ingolstadt but from a filing cabinet in Australia.

The fifth-gen A6 Avant arrived in March 2025, with the sedan landing a month later. Audi has stayed silent on the rugged variant, but Australian type-approval documents have already named it.

Our spy photographers caught camouflaged prototypes circulating in late 2024, and those images formed the base for the speculative renderings we made here. Expect the familiar Allroad uniform: plastic body cladding, aluminum-finish skid plates front and rear, and roof rails sitting higher than the standard car’s.

The wheels look different, the tires are more aggressive, and ride height climbs by enough to be obvious next to a standard A6 Avant. Adaptive air suspension returns, letting the driver dial ground clearance up or down on demand, as every previous Allroad has done.

The interior will be carried over from the rest of the A6 lineup. Amenities should include a triple-screen digital cockpit, a head-up display, a 20-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, four-zone climate control, and a door-closing assist function.

Diesel And PHEV

The Australian paperwork does more than confirm the car exists. As Drive uncovered, the DVKC and DYVA codenames map to a diesel and a plug-in hybrid respectively.

The mild-hybrid 3.0-liter V6 TDI is already offered in the EU-spec Audi A6 Avant, producing 295 hp (220 kW / 300 PS) and 580 Nm (428 lb-ft) of torque. Power will be routed to all four wheels through a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic and the quattro AWD system.

The plug-in hybrid setup is the more interesting line. A 2.0-liter TSI pairs with a single electric motor and a 20.7 kWh battery for a combined 362 hp (270 kW / 367 PS) and an electric-only range of 100 km (62 miles).

When Will It Arrive

While Audi is keeping its cards closed for now, the new A6 Allroad could debut in Europe later this year. North American availability remains a mystery, with the new A6 being offered exclusively as a sedan in the US market.

As reported by CarExpert, the government type approval doesn’t necessarily mean that the new A6 Allroad will be offered for sale Down Under.

When asked, an Audi Australia spokesperson said: “As part of our ongoing planning, Audi regularly reviews and evaluates various models and variants to explore potential opportunities for each market. This process ensures our future model range aligns with local customer needs and market conditions. As always, not every model under evaluation is intended for or progresses to market introduction.”

The competitive set has thinned considerably. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain remains the only direct rival, since the Volvo V90 Cross Country was retired last year.
