• Alpina XB7 uses a twin-turbo V8 producing 612 hp and 590 lb-ft torque.
  • Can sprint from 0–60 mph in 4.2 seconds while coddling passengers in luxury.
  • This example has just 12,000 miles and originally cost nearly $150,000.

Big, luxurious SUVs with sports car performance aren’t exactly rare these days, but few do it with the kind of subtle confidence that Alpina brings to the table. BMW’s M division may never have touched the X7, but Alpina saw the opportunity and ran with it at full throttle.

Despite BMW’s long list of M-badged everything, the X7 never got the full M treatment, which feels like a missed opportunity. Still, if you’re looking for something as massive and refined as an X7, but with the kind of acceleration that’ll make a Porsche driver do a double-take, the Alpina XB7 answers the call.

The XB7 combines the classic, sophisticated looks you’d expect from an Alpina with the type of performance that would make the M division proud. If you’re in the market for a new one in the US, you’ll need to fork out over almost $160,000, or you could look to the used market. In fact, a sharp-looking 2022 example just popped up and is looking for a new owner.

This XB7 is available through Bring a Trailer and had an original window sticker of $148,795. It’s painted in Black Sapphire Metallic and rides on 23-inch Alpina wheels. Alpina also fitted sports suspension, adaptive dampers, and air springs. It may not quite be a Rolls-Royce Cullinan or a Bentley Bentayga, but it has its own lovely appeal and could be the perfect family car for anyone with the money to buy it.

The interior is mostly standard X7, but does include an optional panoramic glass roof, a lovely leather upholstery, and a Harman Kardon surround-sound system. Full black may seem a little bit bland, but there is some green contrast stitching on the steering wheel, so that’s nice.

Of course, it’s the powertrain that makes the XB7 really special. It rocks a 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 pumping out 612 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. According to Alpina, it can hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 4.2 seconds, all in supreme comfort.

If you’ve got a healthy bank account and a taste for quiet overkill, check out the listing here before someone else with good taste and bad impulse control beats you to it.
