- A woman in Florida was arrested after going 125 mph in a Mk5 Toyota GR Supra.
- She claimed she thought her speed was okay because of the car she was driving.
- Florida’s Super Speeder law dishes out harsh penalties for going 50 mph over.
When it comes to speeding, cops have heard every excuse under the sun. But maybe not this one. A woman in Florida stopped for exceeding the posted limit by over 70 mph claimed she thought it was fine because she was driving a Supra.
Bodycam footage from the traffic stop in Bonita Springs captured the incredible interaction between the driver and an officer from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office after cops pulled the GR Supra over for going 125 mph (201 kmh) in a 50 mph (80 kmh) zone.

Asked why she was going so fast, 25-year-old Siria Lopez, who was apparently trying to outdo her passenger’s car, replied: “Honestly, it’s just because he has a Supra, and then I thought it was okay to go fast and everything.”
An admirably candid response, true, but unfortunately for Lopez, it was probably alcohol-assisted. That’s right, not only was she going almost 150 percent of the speed limit, but records uncovered by WTHR show she failed a breathalyzer test, blowing 0.23, or close to three times the legal BAC (blood alcohol limit) of 0.08.
Super Speeder
The video shows Lopez being handcuffed as the police officer reminds her about Florida’s Super Speeder law, legislation introduced last year to crack down hard on drivers caught running more than 50 mph (80 kmh) above the posted limit.
Lopez was charged with suspicion of DUI and speeding in the early hours of April 9, but was released from jail later that same day after posting a $3,500 bond, WTHR reports. In addition to the main charges, she was also hit with aggressive driving and driving a car with a modified exhaust.
Now, a court date beckons, and Lopez has every right to worry. Drivers convicted under the Super Speeder law face up to 30 days in jail and a fine of $500.
The BMW-engined Toyota, however, lives to fight another day, though cops will be keeping their eye out for it, having already pulled it over at least once before this incident. At the end of the video, the officer can be heard telling the passenger, who is the car’s regular driver, that “last time I saw you, you were doing 110 (177 kmh).”
