• The Porsche 911 GT3 RS with Manthey Kit took on the Nürburgring.
  • It lapped the circuit in 6:45.389, nearly four seconds quicker than stock.
  • The package adds a revised suspension plus a range of aero upgrades.

Ford wasn’t the only automaker going all out on the Nürburgring as Porsche recently demonstrated the potential of the 911 GT3 RS with the Manthey Kit. The track-focused setup pushed the car to a 6:45.389 lap of the Green Hell, placing it less than five seconds behind the new Mustang GTD Competition’s 6:40.835.

More importantly, the Manthey Kit shaved nearly four seconds off the regular car’s lap time. That might not sound like much, but every second counts.

The car was driven by former racing driver Jörg Bergmeister, who said “We put so much work into the lap time that it was simply time for the weather to play along. The car was perfectly prepared, and I’m really happy with the lap. It’s truly amazing how much you can achieve with the Manthey Kit, especially on the fast and medium-speed sections of the track.”

Porsche went on to explain the Manthey Kit allows drivers to go full-throttle in sections that are almost impossible for regular road cars. In particular, the company pointed to the section between Pflanzgarten II and Schwalbenschwanz as a place where the car can go flat out.

As a refresher, the Manthey Kit for the 911 GT3 RS adds a ton of aerodynamic upgrades including a new front lip, revised Gurney flaps, and a sizable rear wing. They’re joined by canards, roof fins, a wider rear diffuser, and carbon fiber aero discs that reduce drag. Thanks to all these changes, the car generates 20% more downforce without additional drag.

Other highlights include an upgraded braking system and a semi-active coilover suspension with revised spring rates. The rear window also gives way to a carbon fiber panel that has a vertical shark fin, which helps to improve cornering stability. It’s also worth noting the car can be equipped with optional Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires, which were fitted on the model that lapped the ‘Ring.
