The hot hatch segment has really blossomed, and while only a few years back 200 HP was, more or less, the norm, nowadays no one enters the ring with less than 300 ponies.

The Civic Type R created a buzz when it was launched, but in this company it is the weakest of the three, its 306 HP paling in comparison to the M140i’s 335 and the Focus RS’s 345.

Even so, they all slip below the 6-second mark in the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint and nudge 170 mph (270 km/h) – bar the BMW, which, as usual, is electronically limited to 155 mph (250 km/h).

Each goes around its business in its own unique way: the Honda sticks to front-wheel drive, the Bimmer is, thankfully, still rear-wheel drive and the Focus RS, for the first time, has switched to AWD. The wet tarmac surely played in favor of the Ford, which was the undisputed winner in this three-way comparison. As for the other, two, you’ll have to watch the video to find out how they fared.
