Porsche will treat spectators of the ADAC Rallye Deutschland (August 16-19) to a run of its new Cayman GT4 Clubsport Rallye Concept.

With two-time Le Mans winner Romain Dumas at the helm, the car will, according to Porsche, undergo “a critical test under real conditions”. This run, ahead of the rest of the field, will help the automaker make up its mind about whether or not it should build it.

“We’re looking forward to seeing how the world responds to our FIA R-GT concept study. I would like to invite every interested driver and team principal to visit the service park and take a close look at our rally concept car”, said Porsche VP of Motorsport and GT Cars, Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser.

“Based on the feedback and the interest from potential customers, we will then decide, by the end of the year, whether we’ll develop in the mid-term a competition car for near-standard rallying based on a future Porsche model.”

Besides benefiting from Romain Dumas’ racing expertise, the German automaker had the help of factory and seasoned rally drivers Richard Lietz and Timo Bernhard, as both of them were involved in the test program.

As for the rally concept, it’s based on the Cayman GT4 Clubsport, which in turn builds upon the street-legal Cayman GT4, and sports a few visual and technical updates. These include the roof-mounted scoop, auxiliary lights at the front, full underbody protection and energy-absorbing foam element in the doors.

Power comes from the same mid-mounted 3.8-liter flat-six found in the the Cayman GT4. It develops 385PS (380hp / 283kW) that are channeled to the rear wheels through a PDK dual-clutch transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters.

No specs have been released yet, but the street-legal car does the 0 to 100km/h (0-62mph) run in 4.4 seconds and maxes out at 295km/h (183mph).
