This modified BMW 740i Sport is a prime example of tuning done right, as it’s powered by an E39 M5 powertrain… with a twist. Or, more accurately, a supercharger.

BMW may have never offered an M7, but this carcomes real close to what an E38 M7 would -or should- have been.

The perfect proportions of the E38 combined with its under-the-radar styling makes it one of Bavaria’s all-time greats, and this example has received just the right amount of mods to hit home with car enthusiasts.

Finished in its original Alpine White paint job, the car is offered with 53,550 miles at a Bring A Trailer auction. The seller bought it in late 2016 in stock condition and begun its transformation.

A rebuilt 4.9-liter S62 V8 engine, complete with its six-speed manual gearbox, was installed, along with an ESS supercharger, bigger brakes and a limited-slip differential from an E39 M5. Moreover, the suspension was upgraded with Bilstein shocks and struts, H&R springs, a modified rear subframe and axle from a 750i, new sway bars and more.

The interior’s original tan leather upholstery was dyed in caramel by a specialist, while the dashboard now features an integrated iDrive infotainment system that’s reportedly fully functional. The steering wheel and instrument cluster were swapped with items from an E39 M5.

At the moment of writing, the top bid was $40,000, but with four days until the auction comes to an end, we expect the winning bid to be even higher.
