Old Honda CR-V Goes Airborne After Run-In With Toyota Highlander

Waving through traffic is extremely dangerous and can very well have dire consequences both for you as well as other road users.

We don’t know if the driver of a first-gen Honda CR-V was trying not to miss their exit and changed their mind at the last second or were simply overtaking other vehicles on the highway as fast as they could.

In any case, this maneuver resulted in the CR-V colliding with a Toyota Highlander, whose driver lost control of his vehicle briefly. After the two made contact, the Honda crossover was sent flying off the road.

The incident took place in Detroit, Michigan, earlier this week. The dashcam footage shared by James Holowka is a little fuzzy as to what happened next, so we can’t be sure whether the CR-V landed safely up that embankment, of if it ended up crashing into anything else. We can only hope that its driver and any potential occupants made it out unharmed.

In the end, this was a truly unfortunate accident, the type that can easily result in tragedy and was caused purely by a driver’s error. It sort of reminds us of this incident from last summer, when a car flew off the road in Brandon, Mississippi, and crashed directly into a gas station.

Looks like they changed their mind on exiting and swerved too abruptly. Sadly, it also looks like the CRV was rolling after it crashed through the fence.

Why sadly? This is called natural selection.

The speed limit there is 55 mph but people drive up to 75 mph. It’s obvious that the Honda was just taking the far right lane to pass that car, but saw that it was an exit just a little late. When they jerked the wheel to get back on Southfield they may have hit something. Maybe a curb or rock or one of Detroit’s legendary potholes. Anyway after flinging back into the freeway they hit the Toyota and ricocheted back up the embankment. I see a lot of dust and flying debris on the service road above so they may have hit more vehicles up there

An Age Old rivalry..i hear the CRV was bullying the RAV 4…well big brother Highlander did not like that..

  • Rudy™

Typical. That’s how the ghetto half of our area drive on the Southfield Freeway. Dey be bad, yo. Yeah sure, out smashing up their cars and others. A car in front of me on I-696 nearly got clipped the exact same way by some ghetto trash cutting in and out of traffic at high speed.

      Racist troll.

Looks like the driver of CR-V was trying to pass all three cars by overtaking through the exit ramp. He forgot to overtake Karma though, and she eff’d him up… Got what he deserved. Clown!

  • Randy Terpstra

Ooooh, so THAT’s why they’re called exit ‘ramps’.
