A lot of controversy has surrounded the 2021 BMW M3 and M4 since their unveiling last year with it all centered on the ghastly kidney grilles of the two sports cars. While we’re not fans of the grilles, the new cars have a lot going for them and promise to be even better than their predecessors.
In the first of the two videos below, BMW takes us through a detailed tour of the various cooling systems required to keep the M3 and M4 running in even the most strenuous of scenarios.
Hidden behind the kidney grilles is the main cooling area with radiators and powerful fans. There is also a stone guard placed in front of the radiator while located below the radiator is a gearbox cooler, only present on those vehicles with the available dual-clutch transmission, rather than those with the six-speed manual. Also found up front is a large radar sensor.

Elsewhere, the front of the M duo includes prominent cooling ducts for the brakes. Located behind the front bumper is also a coolant radiator while found below is an engine oil cooler.
This second video discusses some of the duo’s key performance specifications, as well as the various weight-saving measures that BMW has made. These include the availability of lightweight carbon fiber-backed bucket seats that don’t just look cool but also save 22 lbs (10 kg).
Power for the two is provided by a twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine that produces up to 503 hp and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque in the Competition variants.
