Acceleration has quickly become one of the most important selling points for electric vehicles and for those in the market for a high-end electric sedan the Tesla Model S Performance, Porsche Taycan Turbo, and Audi RS e-tron GT are the three market leaders. So, which one is quicker?

To find out, CarWow gathered them together for a series of tests on a damp runway. On paper, the Model S Performance accelerates quicker than the Taycan Turbo and the RS e-tron GT but as this video reveals, the three are very evenly matched in the real world.

In the first two races, Mat Watson behind the wheel of the RS e-tron GT gets the jump off the line but as the speeds start to build, the distances between all three cars remain remarkably consistent, proving that it all comes down to the driver. In the third race, for example, the drivers of the Tesla and Porsche get the better launches and maintain their lead over the Audi across the quarter-mile.

It’s then time for a rolling race with all three vehicles set in their most efficient drive modes. While both the Porsche and Audi offer up heaps of performance in their efficient drive modes, the Tesla predominantly relies on its front electric motor and as such, it is left for dead. In the final race, the cars are put in their performance modes. Initially, the Tesla jumps out to a lead but beyond 155 mph (250 km/h), the Taycan Turbo and RS e-tron GT power past.
