Toyota and Lexus unveiled a slew of electric vehicles this morning as the company intends to offer an “EV for everyone.”

As part of this effort, the company will introduce 15 BEVs by 2025, including seven wearing the bZ moniker. By 2030, that number will double to 30.

One of the more interesting vehicles shown today was an electric pickup, which looks like a Tacoma EV. As you can see, the model incorporates a number of cues from the redesigned Tundra including a familiar front end with a black bumper and horizontal fog lights.

The truck also sports Tundra-inspired headlights as well as vertical air intakes, which are apparently blocked off on the EV. They’re joined by a familiar hood that features bulges toward the outside edges. However, that’s where the similarities end as the electric pickup has a smaller grille that features an insert with a geometric pattern.

Moving further back, there’s pronounced fender flares and blacked out A-pillars that flow into a matching black roof. The truck also has Tundra-esque bodywork as well as a crew cab configuration with a familiar greenhouse.

Toyota barely showed the rear end of the truck, but it features distinctive taillights that echo those found on the Tundra. However, unlike its bigger counterpart, the rear bumper isn’t as tightly integrated as we can see an angular separation on the side.

Toyota didn’t say much about the truck, but it doesn’t appear to be based on a dedicated BEV platform and design boss Simon Humphries stated, “Each electric vehicle should be unique and special, not only those on dedicated platforms, but also those related to existing models.”

While nothing is official, it’s likely that the electric truck is based on the next-generation Tacoma. The standard model is expected to be introduced in the next year or two and ride on the TNGA-F platform that underpins the Tundra and Land Cruiser.  As for its design, we wouldn’t be surprised if it closely echoes the concept seen here.
