Wards Auto has released its list of the top 10 best interiors and user experiences (UX) in the automotive industry for 2023, and for the first time ever, six of them are from electric vehicles. A seventh is a hybrid, pointing towards a trend for design innovation among electrified vehicles.

The winners of the prestigious award are the BMW i7, Cadillac Lyriq, Ford F-150 Lightning, Genesis GV60, GMC Hummer, Hyundai Palisade, Jeep Wagoneer L, Kia Sportage Hybrid, Land Rover Range Rover, and the Nissan Ariya.

Wards Auto noted that that electric vehicles on the list brought a sense of innovation to their interiors. They featured giant, high-resolution screens, fancy gear selectors, intriguing graphics, and other high-tech features, like doors that open and close automatically. The vehicles aren’t just tech-laden, though, they’re also tech-savvy.

“Infotainment systems also are better than ever, with menus less cluttered and easier to navigate,” said Schweinsberg. “The performance of voice recognition and ease of connecting a phone to utilize wireless Apple CarPlay also was impressive in many of our 2023 winners.”

In addition to the majority of vehicles listed among the winners being electrified, almost all were SUVs or crossovers. Among the winners, just one (the i7) was a car, and just seven of the 35 nominees in for the vehicles initially considered as nominees were cars. This points to a longstanding trend in the American automotive market towards the larger, more expensive vehicles.

This is only the second year that Wards Auto has combined its best interiors and UX categories. Among the winners, BMW, Ford, Genesis, Jeep, and Kia all produced winning vehicles last year, as well.
