The Koenigsegg Regera might have been originally introduced in 2015, but this didn’t stop it from breaking new records. The Swedish hypercar completed the 0-249-0 mph (0-400-0 km/h) run in a blistering 28.81 seconds to reclaim the crown from the Rimac Nevera which did it in 29.94 seconds last month.

All 80 units of the Regera were delivered to their respectful owners between 2018 and 2022 with Koenigsegg asking themselves “Why set these new records with a car that is long off the production line?” to willingly answer “Because it can!”. The company says that the Regera is “still the King reigning supreme in today’s super competitive automotive landscape” despite being “engineered 10 years ago” which is why they decided to celebrate it with a new record.

With the new run, the Koenigsegg Regera improved its previous record of 31.49″ from 2019 by a full 2.68″. This difference is attributed to the fitment of new Michelin Cup2R tires and the smoother surface of the track. The record attempt took place at the 3,274 m (2.03 miles) long straight of the Örebro Airport located west of Stockholm, with the data measured and verified by Racelogic. These are the numbers:

0-400-0 km/h 28.81 sec
0-400 km/h 20.68 sec
400-0 km/h 8.13 sec

0-250-0 mph 29.60 sec
0-250 mph 21.35 sec
250-0 mph 8.25 sec

As a refresher, the hybrid powertrain of the Koenigsegg Regera comprises a twin-turbo 5.0-liter V8 engine and a trio of electric motors producing a combined 1,500 hp (1,119 kW / 1,521 PS) and 1,475 lb-ft (2,000 Nm) of torque. Most importantly, power is transmitted directly to the wheels through the single-speed Koenigsegg Direct Drive (KDD) propulsion system.

Christian von Koenigsegg said: “This specific record is one that means a lot to Koenigsegg as it’s a record that covers every aspect of extreme performance. The fact that the Regera can still surprise and amaze the automotive world after all this time is a testament not only to its timeless design, but to engineering and technology that was way ahead of the curve. It’s something that makes me extremely proud, and as the Jesko customer cars are being delivered, we can’t wait to show you what’s next”. Those comments likely hint at a new record attempt for the future, probably with the mind-blowing-fast Jesko Absolut.
