A BMW M5 with 1,000 HP? Well, while it sounds over-the-top, it’s certainly doable, as this particular example demonstrates. But what does all that power get you?

Well, a pretty strong result against some of the fastest-accelerating race cars around, as CarWow’s latest drag race video proves.

Rallycross tracks are short and alternate between gravel and tarmac. It’s very hard to pass on the tight, winding tracks, so getting a good launch is crucial. That’s why the best rallycross cars can hit 60 in as little as 1.9 seconds.

That’s impressive and you can see exactly what that means against this M5 tuned by Evolve. This 10-second car is bloody fast, but it still looks like it’s standing still at the line.

The AWD, sequential transmission rallycross cars launch hard, but as in races they don’t need high speeds, they top out at around 130 mph. That’s a speed even the stock M5 can surpass with ease, never mind this highly tuned one.

However, despite that high end advantage, the M5 struggles to catch up with the World Rallycross Mini in the first race. What about the second, though? Well, you can find out for yourselves by clicking on the video right below.
