• Ford accounts for nearly one third of recall actions so far.
  • More than 7m Ford vehicles already recalled since January 1.
  • Second place Toyota holds only about 8 percent of actions.

We’re barely two months into 2026 and Ford is already dominating the one leaderboard it wishes didn’t exist. The Blue Oval has recalled more than 7.3 million vehicles as of March 3, 2026, just 61 days into the year, easily outpacing every other automaker.

If that scenario sounds familiar, it should. Ford spent much of 2025 issuing recall after recall, ultimately piling up more than 150 campaigns covering a record 12,926,436 vehicles. That figure dwarfed last year’s totals from Toyota and Lexus, which combined for 3,223,256 vehicles, as well as Stellantis that followed with 2,776,952 units.

Two months into the new year, Ford and its Lincoln brand have already accounted for 56.6% of that 12,926,436-vehicle total. At this pace, the company looks determined to defend its title.

Industry data covering recalls announced since January shows Ford responsible for about 28 percent of all recall campaigns so far. That puts it comfortably ahead of everyone else in the business. Toyota sits in second place but only accounts for around 8 percent of the total, having issued just 5 recalls to Ford’s 17.

Ford Has Already Recalled Nearly Three Times As Many Cars As All The Other Brands Combined

In other words, Ford’s share of recall actions is roughly three times that of its nearest competitor. Hyundai also appears near the top of the list with the same 8 percent share as Toyota, while GM scores just under 7 percent.

Taken together, the industry has issued 61 recall campaigns so far in 2026, and Ford alone accounts for 17 of them. That’s a sizeable slice of the pie this early in the year, even by the Blue Oval’s recent standards.

Part of the explanation is scale. Ford sells a huge number of trucks and SUVs in North America, and a single issue affecting a popular model can quickly balloon into a multi million vehicle recall. When your best sellers include sales monsters like the F-150, even a minor defect can spread widely.

Still, the pace is striking. The company has already issued recalls covering millions of vehicles across several different problems. Some involve software issues, others involve safety systems or components that simply do not behave as intended.

Growing By The Week

Ford Has Already Recalled Nearly Three Times As Many Cars As All The Other Brands Combined

Before getting stuck into this post, I’d already written about Ford recalling 1.74 million vehicles over a problem with rear-view cameras, plus thousands of 2026 Lincoln Navigators needing a fix because their seats might slide back unexpectedly while the SUV is on the move.

And last week we posted about 4.3 million Fords suffering a towing software issue the day after hybrid Escapes were handed a third recall related to their battery packs. CEO Jim Farley claims Ford is making progress on improving quality, but it could be a while before we see that reflected in recall stats.

Across the entire industry, recalls announced so far in 2026 cover more than 10 million vehicles. Ford alone accounts for nearly three quarters of that total, meaning it has already recalled nearly three times as many vehicles as every other automaker combined.
