These Are The 2020 European Car Of The Year Finalists, Who Will Win?

The battle for the 2020 European Car of the Year title continues, as the shortlist of nominees has just been announced.

After the latest round of voting, the jurors have trimmed down the list from 35 candidates to just seven. In order to be eligible for the award, all cars have to be new and available in at least five European countries.

“This shortlist is representing the current development directions in the automotive business”, said President of the Car of the Year Jury, Frank Janssen. “We see electrification in progress, as well as the highest standard in internal combustion engines.”

Ford Puma
Peugeot 208
Porsche Taycan
Renault Clio
Tesla Model 3
Toyota Corolla

“Electric vehicles are represented by the Porsche Taycan, as well as by the Tesla Model 3, but also making their way into mass market as shown by the Peugeot 208 that will be available as an electric version”, added Janssen. “The BMW 1-Series underlines that internal combustion engine technology still has a huge potential.”

The jurors will meet once again for the final round of voting at the end of February. There, the big winner will be decided, and will be announced at the opening of the 2020 Geneva Motor Show, on March 2, at 3:00 p.m. CET (9:00 a.m. EST).

Last year, the winner was Jaguar’s I-Pace electric SUV, which also won the World Car of the Year award.
